Somehow, MRAs got this idea that feminism is about killing men and taking their place or something. That just goes to show why feminism has to exist, because somehow men’s rights activists took a movement about women and made it about them.
But here’s the thing. The terrible shit that happens to men? We pretty much do all of it to ourselves.
First of all, there’s the idea of toxic masculinity. We raise boys to believe that they have to be tough. “boys don’t cry,” we try and tell them. And because of this, they feel pressured to be tough and to feel nothing, so they’re emotionally stunted and filled with anger.
Second of all, we throw out dangerous ideas that grant them more freedom to be shitty to each other. “boys will be boys,” we say as we write off bad and violent behavior.
Let’s look at that mixture. We’re telling young boys that they aren’t free to express their emotions in the natural way, so they end up bottling up everything. Then, we grant them the freedom to be physically and verbally aggressive to other people.
That’s a dangerous mixture.
Even beyond that, MRAs are so quick to shout “things are bad for men too” at so many things, then when presented with those ideas, they write them off as invalid.
Whenever we talk about the statistics of women who are raped and how it’s a problem and a crime of aggression, men are so quick to say things like “Men get raped too!”
But if you look on Facebook, as soon as someone posts an article about some 35 year old teacher who raped a 17 year old boy, it’ll literally only be the men who say things like “heh, that boy is so lucky” or “wish I had a teacher like that!”
do you know what it means to claim that men are also raped, and then immediately joke about how lucky it is for a man to be raped by a woman?
It means that you don’t give a fuck about other men. It means that you don’t give a fuck about other human beings. It means that literally the only reason that you said it, without caring about the men who are hurt in those crimes, is because you want to take attention away from the VASTLY higher number of women who are raped and make it about you.
i NEED feminism because this twitter account has over 524k followers. that’s 524k people who don’t believe in equal rights for all. i NEED feminism because 524k followers think it’s okay and acceptable to joke about rape. maybe it’s just me, but i am utterly disgusted by this post and the 524k followers that don’t believe everyone deserves equal rights.
it’s almost 2015, if you don’t believe every single human should have the same natural born human rights no matter the race, sexuality, or gender, you need to reevaluate your life.
a human is a human, no matter what. straights are not superior to gays. gays are not superior to straights. whites are not superior to blacks or hispanics or asians or any race. any race is not superior to whites. having a penis does not make you superior to someone who has a vagina.
what is so hard to understand that everyone should be born with the same basic human rights, that no one is superior to anyone?
When women talk about rape, it does NOT mean we do not understand that some people make false allegations. It means ONE thing: We are talking about rape. False allegations ARE serious, and while I’ve never seen anyone say they are not, some people have minimized it. To say a false allegation is somehow “worse than” actually being raped is a false comparison that you cannot say is true and makes this person look like an MRA misogynist. This person stoops to MRA-style rhetoric: “college women ‘being caught.’” Brian Banks’ story is horrific, and it made headlines. Honestly, I think his declaratory statement to zerlinamaxwell to “Google” is beyond rude, as it implies she isn’t already aware of the topic.
In any event, false rape allegations, based on current statistics, which can never be accurately known: DOJ – # of Rapes approx 300,000.
The number of false allegations has been estimated to be between 2-8%, meaning: # of False Allegations, based on DOJ stats = 6,000 – 24,000.
That’s 6-24,000 affected lives. These affected lives can be discussed without minimizing them and without minimizing rape victims. What I find interesting is that, rather than actually advocate for men and men’s issues, these types spend their days posting onto women’s social media pages, and not actually educating people, much less advocate for men. And don’t get me started on the ableism and #NotAllAccused gambit. If people talking about rape hurts your feels, you might want to consider why that is. If the response is anything with the word “women or females” in it, you really aren’t here about supporting men. You are here about silencing anyone not centering men.
And here is another PSA: Genders other than men/women rape and can be raped (and thus be falsely accused, too).
